A New Umbraco Release Is on the Horizon
Umbraco has confirmed that version 19 of its CMS platform is on track for release this December, marking the next milestone in the platform’s ongoing development. For the many organisations across Essex and beyond running their websites on Umbraco, it’s a timely reminder to take stock of where their own platform sits. And for anyone yet to upgrade, there’s no better time to move onto Umbraco 17, the current Long Term Support (LTS) release.
Why Umbraco LTS Releases Matter
Umbraco’s release model gives businesses a steady cadence of updates throughout the year, with one version in each cycle designated as an LTS release. These LTS versions receive extended support and security updates, making them the safest and most stable foundation to build on – particularly for organisations that don’t want to be chasing every incremental update.
Version 17 currently holds that status. With Umbraco 19 due in December, getting onto the latest LTS now means businesses can establish a stable, well-supported platform today while putting themselves in a stronger position for future upgrades.
The Cost of Staying on an Older Version
Staying current matters for more than just peace of mind. Websites running on outdated versions of Umbraco can start to accumulate technical debt, lose compatibility with newer packages and integrations, and become more vulnerable from a security standpoint.
The longer an upgrade is left, the bigger the jump required. What might have been a relatively straightforward update can eventually become a more complex and costly project, particularly where a website has accumulated years of custom development, third-party integrations or legacy packages.

Making Umbraco Upgrades Simpler
As an Umbraco Gold Partner and 2025 Umbraco Contributing Partner, dotcraft has helped organisations of all sizes move onto newer, better-supported versions of the platform. Earlier this year, we also launched an AI-assisted upgrade service designed to make the process even more straightforward.
The process starts with a fixed-price assessment of the current setup, giving businesses a clear picture of what’s involved before any commitment is made. From there, our experienced Umbraco development team can carry out the upgrade as a fully managed project, helping to minimise disruption and remove much of the uncertainty that can come with moving between major versions.
Why Upgrade to Umbraco 17 Now?
With Umbraco 19 on the horizon, now is a good time for any business running an older version to plan ahead rather than wait until support runs out.
Getting onto Umbraco 17 today means having a stable, secure and well-supported platform now, while avoiding the risk of allowing technical debt to build up further. It also provides a more manageable route towards the next LTS release when the time comes.
If you’re not sure which version of Umbraco your website is running, or want to talk through what an upgrade would involve, we’d love to hear from you.
